Liberty Mutual Foundation FAQ
-
Does Liberty Mutual Foundation accept letters of intent?
No. An organization's narrative, financials, board list, project budget and other information weigh too heavily for us to advise solely from a letter of intent.
-
How do we apply for charitable contributions?
Please visit our Apply for a Grant page for more information on how to submit a grant request, including our eligibility guidelines.
-
When is Liberty Mutual Foundation's application deadline?
Liberty Mutual Foundation issues requests for proposals (RFPs) in six priority areas, each with its own application deadline. Please visit Apply for a Grant for more information. We accept applications for our Discretionary Fund on a rolling basis.
-
How will we know if Liberty Mutual Foundation received our online application successfully?
Upon successful submission of your application, you will receive an email confirmation from Cybergrants.
-
For online proposals, when and how will we be notified of a decision?
You will receive an email notification no later than 12 weeks following the RFP deadline (or submission date for Discretionary Fund proposals). If after 12 weeks you have not heard from us, please contact Foundation@LibertyMutual.com. Email notifications are sent for all proposal applications, regardless of whether they are approved or declined.
-
What materials do I need to complete the application?
In addition to completing the proposal narrative, you will be asked to share your organization’s:
- Budget (and the program budget, if you're applying for programmatic support)
- Most recent audited financial statements prepared by an independent public accountant or a certified public accountant
- Most recent IRS Form 990
- Board listing with individual affiliations
- Other philanthropic contributors and their levels of support.
-
May I contact Liberty Mutual Foundation staff if I have questions or problems with my application?
If you experience technical issues, please contact the help desk number on the application form.
While Foundation staff are available to answer questions about your submission, we are unable to pre-qualify proposals; our responses may be limited to a general explanation of the Foundation's priorities and goals. We encourage prospective applicants to familiarize themselves with our eligibility guidelines and Purpose and Impact Report before applying to determine if their organization and/or program aligns with Liberty Mutual Foundation’s strategic grantmaking framework.
-
How can I apply for event sponsorship?
Sponsorship requests are not considered through Liberty Mutual Foundation. To submit an application for sponsorship support, click here. Due to the volume of sponsorship requests, Liberty Mutual is unable to reply to every solicitation; you will be notified if your request is approved for funding.

Does Liberty Mutual Foundation have a matching gifts program?
Though Liberty Mutual Foundation does not have a traditional matching gift program, through Give with Liberty, the company’s employee giving program, the Foundation provides a 100% match on charitable donations to qualified nonprofit organizations that are made through payroll deductions.
