BOSTON (Dec. 5, 2024) – Today, Liberty Mutual Insurance announced the phase one recipients of its inaugural Impact Driven Collaboration (IDC) grants. This two-part competitive grant program funds collaborative projects that include three or more nonprofit organizations tackling some of society’s biggest challenges.
Over 60 nonprofit partners are part of the inaugural cohort, developing projects aimed at increasing access to food and shelter, strengthening climate resiliency, and expanding access to education and workforce development opportunities.
The phase-one planning grants fund the development or advancement of 16 strategic partnerships that leverage collective expertise and experience. Projects include:
- A plan to improve coordination between child welfare, youth development, and housing sectors to increase housing access for youth aging out of the foster care system. This collaboration will bring together the expertise of the National Center for Housing and Child Welfare and three nonprofits dedicated to addressing youth homelessness, More Than Words, HopeWell, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
- A green building workforce development program that supports individuals experiencing homelessness through training in environmentally resilient home repairs for low-income homeowners. This initiative connects Rebuilding Together Boston and the Home Builders Institute with St. Francis House.
- A fellowship program for youth enrolled in social services designed to create employment opportunities within the nonprofit sector. With curriculum by the BU Wheelock Center for Career Readiness, the program connects graduates to West End House Inc., Sociedad Latina, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center.
“Addressing the most pressing challenges of our time – from climate change to homelessness to education access – require both innovation and collaboration,” said Liberty Mutual Foundation President & Senior Vice President, Community Investments Melissa MacDonnell. “This initiative unites community-based organizations by funding the time and resources needed to build partnerships and develop creative solutions for meaningful and sustainable change that no single organization could solve on its own.”
The grants continue Liberty Mutual Foundation’s efforts of bringing together community members, fostering collaboration and leveraging the unique expertise of the non-profit community to make an impact. Since 2003, Liberty Mutual Foundation has supported over 1,300 non-profits and awarded more than $400 million in grants.
Phase two of the program will launch in 2025 and will award three-year, $1.5 million implementation grants to advance a minimum of three of the projects.
