BOSTON (Nov. 17, 2021) – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has named Liberty Mutual Insurance the winner of the 22nd Annual Citizens Awards, in the category of Best Community Improvement Program. The Citizens Awards program recognizes the most innovative and impactful corporate citizenship initiatives raising the bar on social responsibility and accelerating momentum for a more equitable and sustainable future.
The award highlights Liberty Mutual’s commitment to eradicating youth and young adult homelessness across the country, working closely with shelters, schools, government agencies and community leaders to address this prevalent, yet often hidden epidemic. As a signature program within Liberty Mutual’s corporate giving strategy, the company has committed $17 million to youth homelessness efforts since 2018, partnering with organizations that have helped more than 3,800 young people exit to stable housing and nearly 1,200 young people find transitional housing.
“The national youth homelessness crisis in the U.S. is reaching a critical point, with more than 4.2 million young people either sleeping in shelters or on the street each year,” said President of Liberty Mutual Foundation, Melissa MacDonnell. “We are proud to raise awareness for this often-hidden epidemic and spotlight the remarkable work that our community partners are leading every day.”
In addition to ongoing support, Liberty Mutual recently launched a comprehensive education campaign on the youth homelessness crisis in Boston to help shed light on this underserved issue.
“Liberty Mutual is improving the lives of thousands of young people experiencing homelessness in Boston,” said Senior Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Marc DeCourcey. “Their strategic approach of working with multiple stakeholders in the community is helping to meet the critical needs and will undoubtedly have an impact for years to come.”
The U.S. Chamber Foundation announced the winners of this year’s Citizens Awards on November 17-18, 2021 at the Corporate Citizenship Conference: Business Solves. Learn more about the awards program here.
