BOSTON (May 23, 2023) – For the third consecutive year, Liberty Mutual Insurance has been named to The Civic 50 list by Points of Light, which recognizes the 50 most community-minded companies in the United States. The Civic 50 sets the standard for corporate civic engagement and creates a roadmap for companies seeking to best use their time, talent and resources to improve the communities where they do business.

Driven by the conviction that insurance is a force for social good, Liberty Mutual operates according to high standards of governance and behavior. This is exemplified through the company’s steadfast commitment to advance security and build resiliency for employees, customers and communities.

In 2022, the company and its employees contributed $64 million to more than 7,600 nonprofits across the globe, providing food and shelter to families in need, supporting underserved youth and helping neighborhoods adapt to changing climate. In addition, employees volunteered over 100,000 hours to support the causes that matter to them.

“It’s an honor to once again be included amongst The Civic 50,” said Melissa MacDonnell, President, Liberty Mutual Foundation & Vice President, Community Investments, Liberty Mutual Insurance. “I am continually inspired by the deep-rooted culture of community engagement throughout Liberty, especially by our employees who give their time, talent and resources to people and communities most in need.”

The Civic 50 honorees are companies with annual U.S. revenues of at least $1 billion and are selected based on four dimensions of their corporate citizenship and social impact programs: investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems and impact measurement. The Civic 50’s holistic approach to corporate citizenship is more relevant now than ever before as people look to businesses to lead by example – whether responding to the global pandemic or moving quickly to address systemic racism inside their organizations and in their communities.

“Companies play a critical role in creating thriving, participatory communities,” said Diane Quest, interim president and CEO, Points of Light. “Companies like Liberty Mutual set a model for others, showing how to best use employee talent, business assets and integration to create meaningful impact, and we’re thrilled to uplift and celebrate their work as an honoree of The Civic 50 2023.”
