April 10, 2014 - Liberty Mutual Insurance continues its tradition of rewarding exceptional work place safety performance by employers participating in two Montana-based group workers compensation programs. Recently, the insurer returned more than $1 million in premium adjustments and surcharge savings to employers in the Montana Liberty Premier Contractors Group, and more than $150,000 to employers in the Montana Safety Choices Group.

Both programs help businesses manage workplace risks to help control costs, reduce workplace injuries, and see their efforts translate into significant premium savings. Participating employers work with Liberty Mutual risk control personnel throughout the year to establish and maintain comprehensive loss prevention plans and safety training for management and employees. Employers also benefit from Liberty Mutual’s return to work programs and nurse case manager expertise.

For the policy year running from July 2012 to July 2013, the Premier Contractors Group saved nearly 21 percent on its workers compensation premium, reflecting its best safety performance over the last six years. Fred Miller, ARM, AU, Montana Safety and Health Bureau noted, “Since 1997, Liberty Mutual has demonstrated its commitment to help improve work place conditions and safety for Montanans. Group members receive top-notch safety assistance and are rewarded for reducing work place injuries.”

The Montana Safety Choices Group, the group workers compensation program of the Montana Chamber of Commerce, realized more than a seven percent premium savings for the same policy year, and its member participants also received a safety premium credit of five percent each. Since its inception in 2009, group members have collectively received more than $500,000 in returned premium.

“We’re proud to partner with Liberty Mutual in offering our members a program that incentivizes them to achieve strong safety benchmarks,” stated Webb Brown, President and CEO of the Montana Chamber of Commerce. “We certainly welcome more Chamber members’ participation in this group to create safer work places and keep workers compensation costs in check.”
