To help public entities better protect against employment practice liability (EPLI) claims and losses, Liberty Mutual’s dedicated Public Entity unit now offers its Liberty Mutual Insurance Human Resource Risk Management Service program, a toll free helpline providing access to unlimited legal advice at no cost to its customers, and an online library providing relevant content on an extensive range of key employment issues.

“Counties, municipalities, public schools and colleges face an increasingly complex employment law landscape, and the cost for failing to comply is staggering,” notes Susan Kostro, who heads the area of Liberty Mutual that provides insurance products and services to public entities.  “We introduced the Liberty Mutual Insurance Human Resource Risk Management Service program to help public entities – faced with tight budgets – more effectively manage their EPLI exposure and costs.”

The number of workplace discrimination charges brought by the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission grew in 2016, reaching 91,503, according to EEOC data.  Further, the federal EEOC fined private, state and local government and federal workplaces more than $482 million for employment discrimination in 2016.

The new risk management helpline provides direct and unlimited access to employment law attorneys who can discuss an insured’s specific employment concerns and risks, while the online library offers instant round-the-clock access to:

  • Key resources addressing more than 50 of today’s leading employment law, HR and risk management issues
  • Interactive online training courses and tools for supervisors and employees
  • Public entity-specific live and prerecorded webinars
  • A tool for building state-specific employee handbooks

Access to both the helpline and website are available to EPLI policyholders of Liberty Mutual’s dedicated Public Entity unit.
