In response to the recent and ongoing racial injustices across the U.S. and in recognition of the pain and suffering within the Black community, we shared with our employees today that we’re granting $1 million to the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) to fund a fellowship to advance its work and to help change the national dialogue about race.
EJI supports communities that have been marginalized by poverty and unequal treatment. It’s committed to rooting out racial and economic injustice, ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment, and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. We’re proud to support this vitally important organization.
As part of our employees’ desire to take more action, we’ll also be doubling their donations to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Race Forward, National Urban League, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Black Lives Matter Foundation and EJI. These non-profits, along with many others, work toward helping create a just society and advancing human rights for all people of color.
We know that there is a lot of work that needs to be done, and as a global organization, we understand the role we play in making sure the work gets done. We’ll continue to have honest, open and sometimes difficult conversations as part of our ongoing efforts to listen, learn and most importantly, combat systemic racism.
